SPAR National Tree Day - October 5th 2023
Lá na gCrann – 5 Deireadh Fómhair 2023

Go Nuts about Nature this SPAR National Tree Day with some fun activities you can do with your friends, classmates or family.

Getting out into nature has many benefits for humans, so the more we get outdoors, the happier we feel. Some of us may prefer a walk to admire our surroundings, while others love stretching and doing yoga in the company of trees. Here are more reasons why trees are good neighbours.

Activities

Make some delicious hazelnut spread
Since we are celebrating the Hazel tree this year, why not treat yourself by making hazelnut spread with our delicious recipe. Follow the link to watch the video: How to make hazelnut spread!

Make friends with a tree Pick your favourite tree and learn about how it’s a good friend with our Tree Day poster here. Spend some time with it by reading under it, giving it a hug or planting some flowers under it.

Collect pine cones
Many pine cones can be found on forest floors at this time of year. Did you know that they can be the perfect addition to an afternoon of craft activities? You can use them to make decorations, or simply add a few drops of essential oil (with the help of a responsible adult) and store in a ziplock bag for one week, before arranging in a bowl to scent your home.

Make a Bird feeder
Learn how to make a bird feeder here so you can spot the different species of birds in your local area.

Enjoy a Woodland Walk
Branch out into nature and spend some time walking through your favourite park, woods or green space. Check out the woodland walks that are being run as part of SPAR National Tree Day and learn how to lead your own tree walk here.
